General Info

Climate: Tropical with very little temperature variation. The cooler months being June to September. The wetter months are November to April, but as with most parts of the world no one can predict the weather.

Clothing: Cool and casual is the order of the day here in Fiji. Pack a sweater or long sleeved t for the cooler months. If you are visiting a village, no brief attire and please remove your sunglasses or cap as this is considered disrespectful. It is also customary here in Fiji to remove your shoes when entering someone's home.

Currency: The Fiji Dollar is the local currency, all prices quoted on this website are in Fiji Dollars. Money can be changed at any of the banks here in Savusavu as well as the Western Union Money Exchange outlet. There are three ATM's so when you withdraw from your account back home Fiji Dollars are dispensed and your bank will convert back to your own currency. Some stores accept credit cards, note that some may charge an administration charge as the banks here charge up to 5% to their customers for credit card facilities.

Electricity: 240 volt 3 pin plug, same as Australia and New Zealand. We do have an ipod docking station so ipods can be charged on the dock.

Internet: Complimentary wifi broadband provided.

Language: English is the official language of Fiji. Most residents speak at least 2-3 languages, including of course Fijian and Hindi.

Telephone: Complimentary local calls provided via landline. Local SIM card can be obtained at mobile phone outlets in town if you need your mobile whilst getting around and want to avoid global roaming charges. Mobile reception is available as is 3G.

Time Zone: GMT +12hours. 2 hours ahead of Sydney, same time as New Zealand and note that we are on the other side of the date line to USA and Canada, so Saturday in the US is Sunday here in Fiji.

Travel Insurance: A MUST DO for all types of travel.

Visas and Health: Onward ticket and valid passports required. Visa is granted on entry for a standard 4 months duration. No special immunisation is necessary, no malaria but please do consult your physician if you have special medical needs. Remember to keep special medication with your cabin baggage just in case your checked in baggage doesn't make it the same day that you do...

What to pack: Reef shoes, sun screen, bug repellant, hat/cap, book/kindle/ipad, snorkelling equipment, personal toiletries/medication and a dose of patience and sense of humour always a good addition when travelling.
