Is there an automatic teller machine in town ?
Yes, there are three. Which one to use, will depend on the bank
that you are with. If you can’t get cash from one try the other.
Can I change my own currency into Fiji Dollars ?
Yes there are three major banks and a money changer, open
during normal banking/business hours.
Will my 110 volt hair dryer work in Fiji ?
No, and if you try to, it won’t ever work again. Unless of course it
has a voltage selector. Just in case you can’t live without it, one is
provided for your use.
Will my mobile phone work ?
Yes, but don’t forget to activate global roaming and check with
your mobile network at home to see if your phone is compatible
with the systems here in Fiji. The mobile networks in Fiji are
Vodafone and Digicel. Check with your own provider before
you leave. Text messages are always the cheapest way to go.
A telephone is located in the house for local calls. Your local calls
are complimentary and included in your tariff. You can purchase
a local SIM card on arrival, either in Nadi or Savusavu.
Can I access my emails and the internet ?
There is Broadband Internet at the house with a wi fi connection.
The Internet is complimentary for our guests as we understand
how important staying in touch can be. Of course you can always
disappear and have a complete holiday from the outside world,
entirely up to you.
Is the water safe to drink ?
Yes, in Fiji the town water supply is safe to drink. Water to the
house is also filtered. If you are sensitive to different types of
water, bottled water is available in town.
Is there a doctor and hospital in the town ?
Yes, Savusavu has a private doctor and a general hospital.
Note that there is a small pharmacy/chemist attached to the
private doctor's surgery. If you have any particular medical needs,
please bring them with you. As with all travel, check with your own
Doctor if you have any doubts. Basics like Band Aids and
headache pills are readily available in the supermarkets.
Is there malaria in Fiji ?
No, there are mosquitoes though, so bring repellent if you don’t
want to be their next snack. Remember it’s only the girls that bite.
Is there a supermarket ?
Yes, the choice is limited compared to larger countries but
considering that we are a small island the selection is pretty good.
Can I buy wine and liquor ?
Yes, there is a good liquor store with a variety of international
wines and spirits, as well as the local beer and spirits. The
supermarket also has a liquor section. It's a good idea to bring
along some duty free if you have a special favourite, especially for
spirits and liquers.
Can I hire kayaks and bikes ?
Yes both are available for hire in town and can be left at the house
for longer term stays.
Do I need to rent a car to get around ?
It isn't necessary as the house is only a ten minute drive from
town. If you want to do a day trip of touring then yes do the car
hire for the day or two as necessary. Getting around by taxi and
bus is fine for day to day travel, see our Getting Around
Page for further details.
If you have any other questions please ask us,
maybe we can add them to the list...........
